Frequently Asked Questions about EMS....
1.) I have a full time JOB, how can I be a volunteer? You can be a volunteer by giving a little bit of your time to help your community in a way which is very rewarding. 2.) How do you handle being a volunteer in EMS, and doing what you do? Knowing that you are able to help a friend, neighbor, family member, or anyone in their time of need, makes it possible to do what we do. Unfortunately there are times where no matter what we do we cant change the outcome. After those situations we talk about our feelings and just realize that we tried to do everything we could. 3.) How much time is needed to be a volunteer? Just a few of hours a day or a week is all that is needed to be a volunteer. The hours people volunteer varies. Some volunteers put in several hours a day if not more. It all depends on you and the time you would like to volunteer. 4.) Why would you want to volunteer, when there are paid positions out there? We are asked this very often. We feel being a volunteer is reward enough. We do what we do because we really want to help people. We don't do this for a paycheck. When you save someone's life or a loved ones life the appreciated words from them and/or their families mean more to us than any money in the world. 5.) How much does it cost me out of pocket for my training? There is NO out of pocket cost for our volunteers. All training is paid for by us and through our in-house training. 6.) Can you volunteer to just be a driver? If so, what kind of training will I have to learn? Yes, we do except volunteers just as drivers. The only training required by us and the state is First Aide/CPR, Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (when available), and a couple other NYS OSHA requirements. We pay for all of the training, there is no out of pocket costs. 7.) I have no medical background can I still become a volunteer? Yes, anyone can be a volunteer. You can receive all the training you need through us. 8.) I would like to volunteer, is there anything else I can do besides EMS? Yes, you can volunteer your time by joining our CES Aux. The Aux. is there to help the EMS people by helping with fundraisers, joining in our functions, and when the EMS have long standbys/calls they bring the EMS drinks and food. 9.) What kind of functions or activities would I have to do? We hold bingos, coin drops, parades, standbys, and other activities. We try to be the support for our community. 10.) How do I get started or join? That's the easiest and most important question. You can download a application from this site by clicking here, or stop by the building. 11.) What do I need to join? To join us, you need to be at least 18 yo, in good health, honest, trustworthy, good moral character, caring, understanding, team player, and like a challenge once in a while.
